This post is being published from one very fritzy acer notebook at the Copenhagen Downtown Hostel. I reserve the right to make spelling errors, based on
1. the fact that there is no shift button...other things such as multiple extra alphabet letters were apparently more important.
2. Im too overwhelmed to process and type words correctly
3. Everyone around me is speaking a different language. The cerebral cortex can only process so much.
So here is a brief overview. Limited both by my lack of sleep and my 1 hour wireless limit that I paid 30 DKK for.
0 Landed in Copenhagen at 7 AM. Slept a little bit on the plane but, pretty sure the jet lag is going to catch up with me soon.
0 Danes are friendly. Ive been stopped twice while looking at my map (not that pitifully) and offered directions. One guy even offered to help with my bags and apologized for ruining my morning when he told me I was walking the wrong way.
0 Danes are stylish and attractive.
0 I need to buy sneakers. Cobblestones and luggage equals unhappy feet on day 1. EVERYONE wears sneakers with everything here. Converses are as prevalent as bicycles. Which brings me to..
0 EVERYONE bikes EVERYWHERE. There are normally no locks on bikes. You can rent city ones for free (refunded deposit). There are very very few private cars, only public transportation.
0 Copenhagen is wonderful. I cannøt believe this is going to be home for 5 months.
Tonights adventure - buy sneakers, a nice latte or ice cream, and sit on a bench somewhere until early bedtime.
Tomorrow holds - train to Arhus, bus to Grenna, check in to 3 week residence at Krystjevens Hotel and meet Erasmus students from all over the world!
